Korean Visiting Teachers
We are extremely lucky to have the sister schools of Busan, South Korea visit Temecula Valley to observe our teaching methods and outstanding students! Our first visitor was Mrs. Ahn who appreciated all the hugs and excitement about learning that the students in our classroom presented every single day. Her often heard comment was, "There is so much JOY in this classroom!" We, too, learned from her about the long hours and dedication that her students possess in South Korea.
Our next visiting teacher is Ms. Lee who is with us until December 14th, 2013. Again, we experience a sweet, gentle teacher who loves to see kids excited about learning. I truly have enjoyed both of my new friends... and can only hope that I get to be a visiting teacher in their classrooms one day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Valentines' Day Celebration 2013: Fun for all! At this age it seems as though what kids love best is handing out their valentines to each other (and making their Valentine card holder!). It was a loong and thorough process and everyone enjoyed both the giving and receiving. The moustaches were an extra bonus! :)

We had a wonderful fall party today. Thank you to all the students that brought food items in to share and to all the parents that volunteered. I think the kids enjoyed it all!

5th Grade Pillars
This year is a pivotal year as you grow in independence and learning. I have 3 Pillars that we will build our classroom upon:
RESPECT
ACADEMICS
DISCIPLINE
These (3) pillars form a foundation of trust between each of us.
RESPECT: What does it mean to respect yourself and others? It means that we will function as a family that loves and supports each other. Each one of you will be valuable to our classroom and each will bring unique gifts and talents and strengths to our room. We will respect what makes us the same, as well as what makes us different.
ACADEMICS: What does it mean to focus on academics? It means that just as I will give 100% and the best of who I am each day; you too will give 100%. Our primary focus at school will always be on learning and striving to become smarter in every way this year. It will mean challenging yourself to study a little bit longer, write a little bit more, and think a little more deeply. It means asking questions - Why? How come? How do we know? It means being passionately curious about everything that is presented this year. Most of all it means respecting our learning time and treating it as sacred.
DISCIPLINE: What does it mean to have discipline? It means that whether I am watching you or not your behavior stays the same. It means doing what is right even if everyone else is doing what is wrong. It means showing respect to your classmates when they speak even if you have a different opinion. It means doing homework when you really feel like playing. It means telling the truth even when it is easier not to. It means going the extra mile - every single day.
These three pillars will mean that we can trust each other to do what is right and what is best for all of us!
